SHI Designing & Manufacturing, Inc. (SDMI) was founded on December 11, 1989 as a joint venture company of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (SHI) and Atlantic Gulf & Pacific Company of Manila Inc.  (AG&P). SDMI started commercial operations in April 1990. SHI owned 90% of share and AG&P owned 10%, respectively. On March 10, 1999 SHI acquirred AG&P's share by request of AG&P. SDMI is now a SHI's wholly owned subsidiary company.
