WIKA was founded on January 2, 1946 by Alexander Wiegand together with his former employee Philipp Kachel. The initials of the two company founders' names form the company name and their production premises are located in Klingenberg, Germany. Initially, they carry out subcontract orders and repair work for agricultural devices and at the end of the year 1946, they start with the production of manometers.
In 1970, WIKA becomes the number 1 of the manometer manufacturers in Europe. At that time, the company has approx. 880 employees, produces 22,500 manometer a day. Meanwhile it also produces in Switzerland, South Africa, USA and Spain. And in 1979, the first electronic pressure gauges are brought on the market. More than 60 year later, approximately 350 million WIKA pressure and temperature measurement devices are used throughout the world.
