The Geologist Superintendent provides leadership, management and technical direction for all mine geology and exploration activities;Ensures that the mine and its environs are geologically mapped, documented and investigated for the purpose of improved resource and reserve definition, input to geotechnical and mine planning / engineering activities;Critically reviews data collection and storage such that all resource QA/QC measures are satisfactory;Develops grade control and geological investigation strategies to improve and optimise mine geological understanding and reconciliation and to maximise the operations profitability;Establish systems to achieve the above objectives;Uses industry best practice to generate accurate and useable mineral resource models, and report to JORC Standards.Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise the running of the Mine Geology department;Strict implementation of all standard operating procedures and safety and environmental policies;Develop and adhere to approved budget plan and costs including reconciliation to this on a monthly basis;Ensure accurate, practical and timely ore block definitions/models are provided to the Mine Operations and Mine Technical Services sections;Ensure daily, weekly, monthly, statutory and ad hoc reports are completed on time and of required quality;Improve skills base of the Hidden Valley geology team by mentoring and training;Planning and organizing all in-pit grade control activities – including but not limited to drilling, sampling, blast leveling, mark out, tallying and floor cleaning;Ensure adequate supervision of grade control drilling and sampling and ensure that quality is guaranteed during the data gathering stage of the grade control process;Ensuring production samples (stockpile & belt) are taken at the agreed specific time intervals;Delivery of all field grade control samples (RC, stockpile, face, belt, etc) at the agreed designated sample submission/preparation area;Ensuring timely submission of samples to the assay laboratory;Supervising the day-to-day (or shift) ore mining to minimize dilution, maximize recovery and prevent ore misclassification/misdirection;Shift / daily / monthly reconciliation between the in-pit ore truck tallies and that of the ROM stockpiles;Monitoring of the ore stockpiles to ensure that the various grade categories get to their respective fingers;Mentoring and checking the work of Geologists, Spotters and Samplers and ensure that all instructions are carried out effectively and efficiently;Collaborate with the Geotechnical Section to be effective and efficient;Undertake in-pit geological mapping to aid interpretation, modeling and ore perimeter design (ore blocks);
