The operations manager job description includes managing all transportation or hauling needs within a business, such as budgets, schedules, and route planning. Your job in this career is to assign trucks, ensure drivers know their routes, and keep track of vehicle maintenance needs. You also track shipments, liaise with customers, and check all areas of the supply chain for efficiency, all while making sure operations continue to run smoothly. You complete all paperwork related to transportation, develop or revise shipping policies for the company, and implement plans that increase company profits. Other duties include communicating with other department managers to coordinate transport activities, settling customer complaints related to product deliveries, and hiring new employees as needed.

Qualifications/Skills :

Bachelor's Degree in Management or Social Science

Eight to 10 years of experience in the field of logistics, trucking, hauling or related area.

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

Negotiation experience to negotiate the cost of transporting materials and strong interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with a variety of coworkers, drivers, and unsatisfied customers. You should be able to manage employees and finances and make sound decisions quickly. Time management is critical, and require long hours and weekend work. Other qualifications include knowledge of the procedures related to transporting goods, computer skills.

Operations manager detailed responsibilities:

·        Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees

·        Communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions

·        Plan and review compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures

·        Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends

·        Forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions

·        Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping

·        Analyze and improve organizational process and workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout; implement changes

·        Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment

·        Serve as the primary point of contact when there are customer issues related to equipment quality, customer service, or accidents and mishaps on-site. In particular, this includes any issues on-site at client facilities, such as breaking a fence or tape residue on flooring

·        Communicate customer issues with the operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints

·        Work closely with GM and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation.

·        Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings

·        Work closely with the inventory manager and team to perform an analysis of our inventory and ensure we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the right equipment, maintaining solid inventory data, and reducing sub-rental expenses

·        Communicate with legal counsel and the safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA health and safety regulations and other governmental regulations
