Independence Associate

Join our Business Enablement Services (BES) group and help support the different business units that help everyone at SGV operate more efficiently. As a BES professional, you will work across teams to provide the knowledge, resources, and tools that help the firm deliver exceptional quality service to our clients, within the marketplace, and contribute to SGV’s growth and profitability.Job Summary:As an Independence Associate, you’ll be instrumental in safeguarding the independence compliance with auditor independence rules and regulations required by external regulators and professional standards, as well as, independence and related rules applicable to all Ernst and Young member firms. Within the professional services environment, appropriate risk management is fundamental to the successful delivery of our client services and promotion and protection of our brand.  You’ll develop your business capabilities faster as you engage with the team’s various stakeholders and face wide variety of new experiences in a dynamic environment which will help you to move quickly along the career path you choose.Key responsibilities:Your day to day responsibilities will be varied and cover a broad spectrum of the activities undertaken by the Independence function expected of an Associate}, including the following:• Understand regulatory requirements and policies applicable to an auditing firm and accountants• Consult with partners and staff on auditor independence issues related to both personal and firm-related independence matters;• Provide guidance to client-serving teams in the completion of client and engagement acceptance and other periodic independence procedures;• Perform various processes and controls implemented to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and various policies• Manage and participate in independence monitoring programs and other process improvement initiatives;• Gather data necessary to assess and monitor policy compliance• Assist with preparation for, and coordination of, practice inspections by external regulators and Internal Audit team;• Promote and demonstrate commitment to audit quality, risk management and independence processes and policies within the firm;• Liaise with professionals within the firm and network firm, as necessary, to gather data or consult; and• Other duties as assignedSkills and attributes needed:• Strong analytical and interpretation skills with excellent attention to detail• Excellent business writing and communication skills• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills• Has initiative, flexible, creative, proactive, hardworking and has ability to work under pressure• Proficiency in MS office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)To qualify, candidates must have:• Graduate of Bachelor’s/College Degree in Business Studies/Administration/Management/Internal Audit or equivalent• Relevant working knowledge of the following activities and processes: Data Monitoring, Facilitating learning sessions (online/ physical)• 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, but fresh graduates are welcome to apply• Non-CPAs are also welcome
