We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer, Structures to join our Building Structures team.
Main Responsibilities include:
Reports and works under the supervision of the Structures Design Engineer II, Structures Design Engineer III andWorkshare Manager.Ensures that he/she understands the Project Brief and design requirements; raises Technical Queries and Requests forinformation to ensure design information is complete and unambiguous.Drafts/prepares/self-checks, studies specification, reports, design calculations and structural details/sketches in accordancewith the project requirements including stability checks and compliance to appropriate codes.Ensures that the designs are correctly interpreted and represented on the drawingsProvide drawings/sketches for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Drafters.Ensure markups are delivered to the drafting team in a timely mannerReviews/incorporates comments of Design Checker.Checks/ prepares CAD drawings in accordance with the required standards as and when necessary.Review shop drawingsPerform quality design checks and drawing reviews as requiredOrganize, draft and coordinate technical documentsAssist in the duties of the Project Manager and attend meetings as and when directed.Drafts correspondences for Project Manager or when directed communicates directly with the Design Team on day-to-day matters.Works towards continuous improvement of the team by utilizing standardized calculation systemsCarries out site inspections as instructed.Undergoes relevant trainings as directed.Comply with all role specific SHEQ obligations.Develop ability to apply safety in design to all projects.Prepare technical reports on small to medium projects.Apply legislations, standards, guidelines and project specifications.Other duties as directed, to help the company provide outstanding service to its customers.Experience, Capabilities & Competencies:
A Registered Civil EngineerProficient in Windows and Microsoft ApplicationsMinimum 2 years’ experience in the design of multi-level residential, commercial and institutional projectsExperience in the design of both reinforced & post-tensioned concrete and structural steelworkExperience in design software including RAPT, RAM Concept, Microstran, and ETABSHas worked within an international design office and familiar with the Australian Standards is a plusAbility to check documentation accurately and in a timely manner.The ability to work as a team player, working with the wide variety of personalities and situations whilstremaining professional and outcome focused.The ability to work independently and to communicate clearly with clients, management team, office team members, colleagues and consultants.Attention to detail and the ability to follow up targets and deadlines to achieve outcomes.Knowledge of relevant systems, procedures and practices.Aware of organizational approach to risk management, ethics and safety.Develops an understanding of WSP’s organizational capability and how to access it.Developing technical skills across a broad range of areas within discipline.Developing experience in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple varying size projects and applying business systems.Developing capacity to deliver best client outcomes/options which have saved the client cost/time.Developing skills to identify risk in small to medium profile projects.Developing experience in managing client relations and expectations.Developing experience in supervising others on tasks.At WSP you'll be part of a supportive organisation that encourages continued development through structured technical/management training, global and local practice networks and wellbeing programs.
