Job Description

We are seeking a talented journalist in the Philippines to join our award-winning news team and contribute to our Inclusive Economies pillar.

You are able to cover issues ranging from socio-economic inclusion, sustainable business, race / gender / sexual orientation-based discrimination and its impact on economies, informal economies, new economic / business models and similarly related topics.

You are comfortable pivoting from writing an explainer on black markets, to reporting on the impact of war in Ukraine on food prices in Southeast Asia, to how internet shutdowns hurt regional economies.

You know how to write for digital audiences, always think of multimedia possibilities for your stories, and come to the table with innovative ideas for your storytelling. 

about the Role

In this opportunity as an Inclusive Economies Correspondent, you will:

Pitch, research and write deeply reported stories from the Philippines and Southeast Asia covering socio-economic inclusion, fair labour, sustainable business and the impact of economic forces on ordinary people.Pitch and participate in creating visually rich multimedia storiesCollaborate across our focus areas - Climate, Inclusive Economies and Tech & Society – to produce cross-pollinating storiesCollaborate with social media team to create informative and engaging social postsConsistently meet deadlines and file concise, clean copyDevelop and manage a network of contacts, expert freelancers, photographers and video journalists.

about You

You're fit for the role of Inclusive Economies Correspondent if your background includes:

At least 5 years of journalism experienceSound understanding of global geopolitics and macroeconomicsExpertise in reporting economic and social issues and their impact on people, particularly in the Philippines and Southeast Asia in generalPassion for covering under-reported stories, and for centering people, not markets, in your coverage. We particularly want to hear from people whose voices rarely feature in international news. Aptitude for identifying, understanding and explaining data-based storiesVersatile and engaging writing style able to adapt to digital as well as traditional media audiencesFamiliarity with multimedia storytelling, including video and audio production and photographyStrong understanding of social media and digital audiencesAbility to meet deadlines Legal right to work in the Philippines
