Position Summary
The USAID- funded Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines: ABC+ project works with the Government of the Philippines to support improved literacy in mother-tongue, numeracy, and social and emotional learning (SEL) in grades K-3. The project outcomes will include improved education system capacity to manage and implement interventions supporting effective early grade instruction.
Specifically, ABC+ is supporting the Department of Education in improving access to quality early grade learning materials on reading and literacy, to develop and produce early grade reading materials in different mother tongues for K to 3 students in Bicol, Western Visayas and Maguindanao.
ABC+ project is seeking for a COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT ConSULTANT to help provide technical support in the delivery of identified communication advocacy activities of the project. The position will be reporting to the ABC+ Chief of Party and work closely with the ABC+ Communications Manager and the Communications Team.
Primary Tasks
1. Support the communications team in developing materials during Events:
a. Celebration of Reading Month in Regions V and VI (November 2022)
b. Various ABC+ and USAID Events (upcoming) and other events that may be assigned (during the engagement period)
Deliverables:
· Event collaterals (i.e. banner, slide decks, etc.)
· Photos and Arts cards with captions for Social Media Posting
· Short / simple videos for events
2. Support in formatting, layout, design of Knowledge Products and Communication Materials
Deliverables:
· Branding of presentations and other materials for use in Celebration of Reading Month in Region V and VI
· Promotional Materials (i.e. pens, notebook, umbrella, etc)
· SocMed Cards and Short videos for social media
· Other communication materials as may be assigned
Reporting and Work Relationships
The Communications Assistant Consultant will be reporting to the ABC+ Communications for Development Specialist and work closely with the Communications Team.
Duration of Contract
ABC+ is looking for a candidate that can be engaged with the project immediately. The duration of the contract will be for maximum level of effort (LOE) for 40 days. The duration of the contract will be for two months from November 3, 2022 – December 12, 2022.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience or Master’s degree and 1 year of experience
· Degree in journalism, literature, education, international development, or related field
· Experience working in communications for an international development partner highly desirable
· Experience working on communications role in USAID-funded programs and familiarity with USAID rules and regulations governing branding and marking preferred, but not required
· Experience in writing technical content for wide range of audience (technical and non-technical), design, and publication processes, including print and digital dissemination.
· Experience in facilitating training/workshops on communications or related topics.
· Experience in organizing events/campaigns
· Knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint required.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability.
· Must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English. It is preferred, but not required, that the candidate be conversant and fluent in Filipino and/or other local languages.
