Blood Banking

nin T, Aspartate Aminotransferase, and Lactate Dehydrogenase.Performs Amylase tests for pancreas.Performs Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Magnesium and Electrolytes tests.Performs quantitative analysis for Cerebrospinal Fluid and other aspirated fluids.Operates I-Lyte/Easylight, an automated microprocessor which is a flow-through ion selective electrode measuring machine used for determination of electrolytes such as Sodium, Potassium, and Chloride.Performs Blood Alcohol Level in serum usually done in trauma patients and for medico legal purposes.Ensures that machines and other equipment have proper maintenance and calibrated regularly.Prepares specimen for send out such as TIBC, Hepatitis Profile, FT3, FT4, TSH (IRMA), tumor markers, and other special tests not routinely done in our laboratory (specimen was kept on freezer and should have proper request).Records and releases all Clinical Chemistry results.
Immunology and Serology
Checks request if it has complete data such as name, age, sex, clinical diagnosis, attending physician, and test required.Performs screening tests for Hepatitis such as Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, Hepatitis B, Envelop Antigen, Antibody for Hepatitis A IgM, Antibody to Hepatitis B Core, Antibody to Hepatitis B Envelop Antigen, and Antibody to Hepatitis B Surface Antigen.Performs Anti-Streptolysin O (ASO Titer), a test for streptococcal infection such as in case of rheumatoid fever and glomerulonephritis.Performs RA Factor, a test for rheumatoid arthritis. Prostate Specific Antigen, anti-nuclear antibody, complement 3, C-Reactive Protein, and others. Prepares specimen for send out and store them properly in freezer with proper request.Performs widal test, a test for typhoid.Performs Dengue Blot, a test for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.Performs Rapid Screening Test for syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV 1 and 2 using test strip.Performs Tubex, a semi-quatitative serologic test for typhoid.Performs Tropo

Clinical Hematology
Performs quality co
ntrol for all hematology tests weekly and as the need arises.Checks patients’ requests if it has complete data such as name, age, sex, tests desired, the requesting physician, and clinical diagnosis.Operates SYSMEX KY-21, a semi-automated hematology analyzer for complete blood count , platelet count, and quantitative count of other blood indices.Perform complete blood count which comprises of hemoglobin, hematocrit , white blood cell count, red blood cell count, white blood cell differential count, stained red cell examination, and platelets.Prepares manual procedure for complete blood count if machine is not available.Quantifies the Red Cell Indices such as Mean Corpuscular Volume, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration, and Red Cell Distribution Width.Performs Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate using the Withrobe Tube Method.Performs Peripheral Blood Smear for abnormal cells.Performs LE Cell preparation for Lupus Erythematosus.Performs and read Malarial Smear for malarial parasites.Performs Blood ABO and RH typing using known anti-sera (forward method) and known cell (reverse method).Operates Thrombotimer 4 channel, a semi-automated machine for coagulation test.Performs Prothrombin Time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time tests for coagulation disorder.Performs Bleeding Time using Ivy’s Method.Performs Clotting Time using Lee and White Method.Performs Reticulocyte Count using unopette and reticulocyte stain.Troubleshoot machines if problem arises.Ensures that machines and equipment are regularly calibrated and maintained properly.Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in Hematology Section.Records and releases results of Hematology Tests.
Bacteriology
Checks specimen and requests for completeness of data, and logs in entry logbook.Prepares an autoclave culture media such as Blood Agar Plate, Mc Conkey Agar, Thioglycollate, Mueller Hinton Agar, Lysine Iron Agar, Sulfide Indole Motility, Urease, Citrate, Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Chocolate Agar Plate, Salmo

Histopathology
Checks request if it has complete data such as name, age, sex, clinical history, and diagnosis of the requesting physician.Records all the data in the logbook.Checks if the specimens are properly labeled and fixed.Receives, relays, and releases the results to the attending physicians.
Drug Testing
Checks if the request has complete data such as name, age, sex, required test, purpose, requesting party, and if the co
nsent for drug testing was properly accomplished and signed up by the person concerned.Records at the receiving book the entire specimen received including all the necessary data required.Performs screening test for methamphetamine (SHABU) and cannabinoids (MARIJUANA) using test kit.Records and releases results of patients.For positive screening test sends specimen to National Bureau of Investigation or other Co
nfirmatory Drug Testing Centers accredited by the Department of Health, together with the letter of co
nfirmation accomplished by the examiner and noted by the Pathologist.
Qualifications:
University degree in Medical TechnologyRegistered Medical Technologist, ASCP, AMTKnowledgeable and experience in the supervision of the Laboratory Department, including supplies and equipment, principles, and procedural techniques. Monitors, screens and troubleshoots analytical devicesMinimum two (2) years experience as Chief Medical Technologist in a reputable healthcare organizationLicensed/Certified to operate the following: Sysmex, XS-800i, Sysmex Ca-50, Sysmex Ca-500, Elecsys, Cobas H232, Bioisite Triage Meter Plus, Roche Cardiac Reader, Vitros 250, Roche 9180 Electrolyte Analyzer, easylyte Plus, Cobas c111, Cobas Integra 400 Plus, Grifols DG Therm, Bactec 950..etc
