Job Summary:

1. Ensure all VAT / indirect tax information is collated in an accurate and timely manner to meet global tax filing timetable.

2. Actively liaise with RELX tax and PWC to resolve any tax issues that arise in a timely manner.

3. Ensure all tax returns are submitted as per the global filing deadline, either by filing directly or working with PWC to file on our behalf

4. Process all month-end transactional related VAT /indirect tax activities including calculations of appropriate adjustments to be booked for month-end close.

5. Complete all balance sheet reconciliations for the areas of tax that you have responsibility for.

Responsibilities:

VAT / Indirect Tax knowledge:

• Understanding of what input and output tax are, and the types of transactions they arise on

• Ability to prepare and submit an indirect tax return for countries with a more straightforward tax regime

Tax Accounting:

• Understand relevant principles of financial and tax accounting

• Understand latest Company & International standards and GAAP in terms of Tax Accounting

Accounting Policies and Standards:

• Able to describe latest Company, national & international accounting policies & standards

• Understands how accounting policies and standards apply to own work

Applying Accounting Principles:

• Understands fundamental accounting principles

• Able to describe accounting implications of business issues

Generic Accounting Practices:

• Understands and can describe issues within generic accounting environments

• Understands own role in these processes, & how they affect P&L and balance sheet & cash flow

Define and Maintain the Financial Accounting Structure, Systems and Procedures:

• Understand and describe main components of local and regional accounts structure

• Understand (in general terms) Master Data maintenance procedures

• Able to describe roles involved in maintaining a General Ledger system

Assure Correctness and Integrity of Accounts:

• Understand tools for automatic reconciliation and review process

• Able to describe common integrity issues

• Able to describe KPIs in operation in business area and relevance to own job

Local Statutory Accounting and Reporting:

• Have a knowledge of local accounting policies, standards and additional requirements

External Auditor Relationship:

• Understands the role of external auditors

• Understands why auditors are asking for specific pieces of information

Knowledge of Accounting Systems:

• Effectively utilise one or more accounting or ERP systems/applications in own work

Qualifications:

Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related courseResult-oriented / goal-focused and a team playerStrong communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to interact with varied backgrounds / personnel / cultures remotelyEager to respond to new challenges, willingness to learnHas an analytical mindsetHas a good background on taxes (VAT and other indirect taxes) with exposure to global entities, but local tax exposure will still do.
