JOB DEscriptION JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT SECTION SUPERVISOR FOR BREEDING
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
1] Under the supervision of the Breeding Supervisor, supervises the activities of breeding caretakers and ensure the smooth flow of breeding operation through proper and correct implementation of farm standard operating procedures and animal husbandry practices to achieve farm production objectives. Communicate and provide proper feedback to the Farm and Production Manager regarding breeding section matters pertaining to: artificial insemination activities; animal inventory; feed and medicine consumption; feed requirements; daily time records and other important matters for recording and for immediate remedial action if necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1] To coordinate with the Farm and Production Manager regarding swine breeding and reproduction matters and breeder animal management.
2] To assist the Farm and Production Manager on matters related to work personnel’s daily farm activities.
KEY TASK TO BE PERFORMED:
1] Ensure the full utilization of work force through daily monitoring of breeding personnel.
2] Makes sure that all caretakers are carrying out their respective duties and responsibilities and not wasting company time.
3] Makes sure breeding personnel observe cleanliness and orderliness of the breeding area, hygiene measures are maintained in breeding tools and equipment to prevent infection and recycling of bred sows.
4] Perform the breeder animal’s vaccination program and other medication program recommended Veterinary Consultant.
5] Assist and carry out proper heat detection, semen collection and processing. Check daily mating activities to make sure that all animals in standing heat are properly and timely inseminated.
6] Check status of bred sows to minimize possible recycles, miscarriages and abortion during pregnancy. Minimize activities and projects that will cause the same.
7] Make scheduled pregnancy testing of sows on its 21st and 42nd day and then on the 56th and 77th day of pregnancy to minimize non-productive days of the breeding animals.
8] Supervise implementation of farm hygiene and disinfection practices.
9] Report any breeding problems that needs prompt attention and help generate possible solutions for each case.
10] Conduct a mandatory weekly physical count of all breeding animals within the breeding section.
11] Collect data accurately on experiments and trials done occasionally in the breeding section and report these to the Farm and Production manager. 12] Makes sure feed conveying and climate control system is working properly to satisfy feed and comfort requirement of all breeding animals.
13] Makes sure feeders and dispensers are calibrated correctly to meet the feed requirements of the breeding animals and to minimize wastage.
14] Reports feed requirements to the Farm and Production Manager for timely delivery of breeding section feeds from the feed mill.
15] Advises Maintenance Specialist to replace any defective feeding or climate control equipment immediately.
16] Reports any unsafe working hazards, conditions or connections to the Maintenance Specialist for immediate action of the latter.
17] Any other related job that a manager may assign and or delegate to from time to time.
