Job Description

Job Description The Company will nominate one of the pilots to be the aircraft pilot-in-command for each flight or series of flights. The authority comes from two sources, the law of Philippines and the pilot’s status within the company.

B. Maintain familiarity with relevant Philippines and International air legislation of the states over which he will fly and agreed aviation practices and procedures. C. Maintain familiarity with such provisions of the Company Operations Manuals are necessary to fulfill his function. D. The PIC exercises the final authority in relation to the operation of the aircraft.

He is responsible for its safety as well as that of the passengers, crew and cargo. Therefore, he must take all measures required for safety during all phases of flight. E. Where a decision of the PIC differs from that recommended, the person making the recommendation shall make a record of the associated facts.

F. The PIC’s responsibility for the safety of the aircraft its occupants and cargo begins from the time he takes control of the aircraft (doors closed) and ends when he hands over the aircraft to the authorized ground personnel or the next flight crew taking charge or when the aircraft is parked, locked and sealed. a. Ensure that the pre-flight inspection has been carried out and decide whether or not to accept the aircraft with un-serviceability allowed by the CDL or MEL. b. The pre-flight external inspection shall focus on safety-critical areas of the aircraft and ensure that:

i. Pilot and static ports are not damaged or obstructed; ii. Flight controls are not locked or disabled iii. Frost, snow or ice is not present on critical surfaces; iv.

Aircraft structure or structural components are not damaged. c. In the absence of a qualified Company engineer, ensure that aircraft refuelling is supervised with particular attention being paid to: i. The correct grade and quantity of fuel ii.

Fuel water checks iii. Fire safety precautions iv. Checking filler caps for security and correct replacement after refuelling

d. Make all reasonable steps to ensure that the aircraft mass and balance is within the calculated limits for the operating conditions; e. Ensuring that his license, medical certification, passport and visas are valid including his personal log book is maintained up-to-date; f. The safety of the aircraft to the ground, although he can at his discretion delegate his duties in this regard temporarily to a subordinate officer or an authorized company employee or agent or an airport official where there are adequate staff and facilities for securing the safety of the aircraft;

g. Providing the operations department with complete and up-to-date information as to the movement and serviceability of his aircraft; h. Inform ATS of any aircraft or vessel in distress or requiring assistance and rendering any assistance of which he is capable without endangering the safety of his own aircraft or its occupants; i. Report all cases of infectious disease on board to the medical authorities.

j. Record the details of any birth, death on board, on the incident / occurrence report form provided or, in its absence, the voyage report. G. The PIC shall ensure that the licenses of each flight crew member have been issued or rendered valid by the State of Registry, contain the proper ratings, and that all flight crew members have maintained recent experience and competence.

(PCAR 8.4.1.2) H. Other than his overall responsibility, he is authorized to delegate tasks to his crew and to other suitable personnel. It is his duty to co-ordinate, supervise and check the tasks of his crew.

He encourages team work and ensures that his crew members receive all information essential for the performance of their tasks. I. He co-ordinates the performance of flight deck related tasks and duties and decides on who act as Pilot Flying (PF).

In order to promote the aeronautical experience and knowledge of his Co-pilot, the PIC shall give him the opportunity to plan and conduct the flight, or portions thereof, under his supervision. J. If the Co-Pilot is permitted to conduct a take-off and/or landing and other adverse weather or abnormal operational conditions are encountered e.g.

turbulence, equipment un-serviceability... etc, the PIC should carefully consider whether or not to permit the co-pilot to continue as the PF. K. At no time, permitting a Co-Pilot to conduct a take-off and / or landing shall detract from overall responsibility of the responsibility of the PIC for the safe conduct of flight. L. However, the PIC shall not permit a

First Officer (FO) to conduct a take-off and/or landing if the: a. Runway is contaminated or slippery; or b. Surface crosswind component exceeds 15kts(gust included); or

c. Visibility / RVR and ceiling is less than Cat 1 Minima; d. Airport is category B and C. M. The above limits do not apply when an Instructor (TRE, TRI, or LI) is the PIC and an FO or a trainee is conducting the flight under his supervision. N. If an FO is permitted to conduct a take-off and/or landing and other adverse weather or abnormal operational conditions are encountered ;e.g. turbulence, equipment un serviceability... etc, the PIC should carefully consider whether not to permit the FO to continue as the PF.

O. At no time, permitting an FO to conduct a take-off and/or landing shall detract from the over-all responsibility of the PIC for the safe conduct of flight.
