Database Administrator (100K to 120K)

The Database Administrator will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database as well as be involved in the planning and development of the database, including troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. They are to secure that data remains consistent across the database, is clearly defined, can be accessed by users concurrently in a form that suits their needs, and is provided security and recovery control ensuring that all data is retrievable in an emergency.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes the needs of users and oversees user access and securityOversees performance and manages parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end usersMaps out the conceptual design for a planned databaseConsiders both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-usersRefines the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data modelFurther refines the physical design to meet system storage requirementsInstalls and tests new versions of the database management system (DBMS)Follows data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection ActWrites database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)Controls access permissions and privilegesDevelops, manages, and tests back-up and recovery plansSecures that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctlyCarries out capacity planningWorks closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmersCommunicates regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and securityCommissions and installs new applications and customize existing applications in order to make them fit for purposeManages the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database.Software installation and MaintenanceData Extraction, Transformation, and LoadingSpecialized Data HandlingDatabase Backup and RecoverySecurityAuthenticationCapacity PlanningPerformance MonitoringDatabase TuningTroubleshooting

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

University Graduate on IT or any related sciences5-7 years of solid experience with big data platforms and tools is preferred but not mandatoryExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsGood communication, teamwork and negotiation skillsFamiliarity with the main data manipulation languages and the principles of database design and the ability to work to tight deadlines under pressureGood organizational skillsFlexibility and adaptabilityThe ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customersBusiness awareness and understanding of business requirements of ITA willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technologyAn understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act.Previous experience as a DBATechnical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniquesKnowledge of programming languages (e.g. Java)Hands-on experience with SQL database designFamiliar with different databases like: MySQL Server, MSSQL server, HDFS,PostgreSQL;Knowledge of the ETL process and implementationExperience with Cloud platform of the following AWS, GCP and OracleExperience in creating detailed reports and analysisMust be very detail-oriented so as to avoid the possibility of errors and serious lossGood planning, organizational, and time management skillsMust have basic knowledge on project control techniques and principles, and ability to perform comprehensive forecasting and analysisGood communication, presentation, and interpersonal skillsMust be self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing prioritiesDisplay strong analytical and problem-solving skills
