MACCAFERRI does not only have a long history dating back to the 19th Century, but is a history itselfon its revolutionary development and contributions to preserving the environment. It was 1879 when Raffaele Maccaferri first set up an ironworks company known as "Ditta Maccaferri Raffaele Officina da Fabbro".
The first breakthrough came in 1893 when Maccaferri invented one of the first structures for river bank protection - sack gabions. This was applied to a very important and historical project, the Reno River in Italy. It took 650 workers 34 days to install 2,900 gabions, a record for those times. Until today, more than 100 years later, these gabion structures are still in place.
The successful application of Maccaferri gabions prompted the Italian Government to adopt this type of solution for the reinforcement of land and river bank protection. A few years later, towards the end of the 19th century, the Maccaferri Company had taken out a patent and acquired the right to utilize an even more advanced type of gabion invented by Egidio Palvis, the box gabion.
After the Second World War, the Company had sought to improve the materials for a stronger and longer lasting result - PVC coating. It was this sort of constant drive for technical improvement and innovative development that puts Maccaferri a step ahead of its competition. Signore Maccaferri traveled around the world in order to better understand what was needed and could be offered in other parts of the globe. As a result we can now be found in five continents, still learning and finding ways to make the environment a better place for all.
Our challenge is moving towards a broader engineering arena, pursuing a vertical integration with an involvement in every phase of the process, from design to material supply and installation.
Our goal is to become a leading international provider for advanced solutions for the civil engineering and construction market: this is the way for engineering a better solution… our mission.Maccaferri Philippines
